About PayoutCalc & Our Methodology
PayoutCalc is a set of free, private calculators that show online sellers what they really keep after commission, payment processing, flat fees and tax. This page explains who we are, how the numbers are calculated and how we keep fee data honest.
Our mission
Selling online looks simple until the payout arrives. Between marketplace commission, payment gateway charges, per-order fees, shipping and withheld tax, a product that seemed profitable can quietly lose money. Our mission is to make those deductions visible before you set a price, with calculators that are free, private and run entirely in your browser.
PayoutCalc is built for e-commerce sellers, digital creators and freelancers. We pay particular attention to sellers in Pakistan and the wider South Asia region who sell on Daraz, because clear, up-to-date fee tools for those markets are hard to find. The same formulas work just as well for global platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Shopify, TikTok Shop, Gumroad, Stripe and PayPal.
How the calculations work
Every calculator on this site uses the same core model. Percentage fees are applied to the selling price the buyer pays, which is how most marketplaces and payment processors bill, and fixed costs are added on top. The formulas are:
Total fees = (Price × Commission %) + (Price × Gateway %) + Flat fee + (Price × Tax %)
Gross profit = Price − Item cost
Net profit = Price − Item cost − Shipping − Total fees
Net margin % = Net profit ÷ Price × 100
ROI % = Net profit ÷ (Item cost + Shipping) × 100
Markup % = (Price − Item cost) ÷ Item cost × 100
Break-even price = (Item cost + Shipping + Flat fee) ÷ (1 − (Commission % + Gateway % + Tax %) ÷ 100)
If you fill in the optional Ads and returns fields, ad spend per order and a returns allowance (return rate × cost per return) are taken off the profit as well, and they count as money spent in the ROI.
The platform-specific calculators add the extra line items that platform charges, such as a Daraz handling fee or a TikTok Shop creator affiliate commission, but they feed into the same totals. Target-margin pricing simply runs the break-even formula in reverse to find the lowest price that still delivers the margin you want. You can see a full worked example on the multi-platform calculator.
How fee data is sourced and reviewed
Where a platform publishes its rates, the presets use them. Stripe and PayPal come from their own pricing pages, and the US TikTok Shop referral fee comes from TikTok's US seller page. Where a platform does not publish a rate (Daraz shows commission only inside the seller account), the numbers in the fields are examples, labelled as examples on the page, and you should replace them with your own. I do not use forum posts or reseller blogs for headline rates.
- Periodic review. We re-check the presets on a regular schedule and whenever a platform announces a fee change.
- Dated labels. Each calculator shows a "last reviewed" label so you know how fresh the numbers are.
- You stay in control. Every rate is an editable field. If your seller center shows a different commission for your category or account tier, type it in and the results update instantly.
Editorial and accuracy policy
We aim to be accurate, transparent and independent. Fee presets and guides are written to explain how costs work, not to promote any platform. PayoutCalc is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any marketplace or payment provider mentioned on the site, and advertising never influences the rates we publish.
Fees change often and differ by category, country, seller plan and promotion, so our results are estimates for planning, not a guarantee of what you will be paid. They are not financial, tax or legal advice; see our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer. If you spot a rate that looks wrong or out of date, please report it. We review every report and correct confirmed errors as quickly as we can, updating the "last reviewed" date when we do.
Privacy by design
PayoutCalc has no server-side calculator and no user accounts. Your prices, costs and margins are processed by JavaScript in your own browser and are never uploaded. To save you retyping, your last inputs, currency and light/dark theme preference are stored in your browser's localStorage, which stays on your device and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings. The only information we receive directly is what you choose to send through the contact form. Read the full Privacy Policy for details, including how advertising cookies work.
Who is behind PayoutCalc
PayoutCalc is built and run by Saqib Aziz, a developer who builds practical tools for online sellers. It is a one-person project. I am a developer, not a full-time marketplace seller, so I rely on each platform's published fee pages and say so when I can't confirm a number. I keep it free and lightweight so it loads quickly on any phone or connection.
